Capture the beauty and vibrance of one the most enigmatic cities in the world through a unique photographic journey through Paris. Photographer Sarah Stolfa, and Parisian Photographer Richard Nahem will take you on a personal photographic tour that strays off the beaten track. In addition, you will have the exclusive chance to be a VIP guest at Paris Photo, one of the world’s most prestigious photography exhibitions.

As the itinerary will show, each of your tours, led by a professional guide and photographer, is designed to bring out the best of Paris and to provide you with opportunities to take photographs. We have also built time into the itinerary for you to go back to these areas if you are so inspired, or to just enjoy exploring more of Paris on your own. Guest Parisian photographers will provide an insider’s perspective to some of the most unique places to photograph in and around the city. Additionally, Photography Instructor Sarah Stolfa will provide instruction along the way, while hosting critique sessions in the evening.

 

 

Itinerary

 

November 5: Arrival in Paris – Tour begins

Upon your arrival in Paris, you will make your way on your own to the beautiful 5-Star Hotel Castille in Paris, where you will be met by your travel hosts from the Philadelphia Photographic Arts Center. We will request early check-in, however we will not be able to guarantee your room will be available prior to 3:00 PM. You will be able to drop off your luggage, however, leaving you free to rest in the public spaces of your hotel or explore this prestigious Paris neighborhood on your own.

2:00 PM – 5:00 PM: Paris Highlights Tour – Assemble as a group in the lobby before going to lunch, followed by a private guided tour. You wi’ll discover the most iconic sites and monuments of the French capital as well as some of the most charming neighborhoods in the city. This is a wonderful introduction to Paris for those visiting for the first time or returning after many years’ absence.

7:30 PM: Group Welcome Reception – The group will meet for a welcome reception at your hotel

November 6: Photo Tour – Neighborhood Walk

9:00 AM – 12:00 N: St Germain des Pres Photo Op Tour - One of the most beloved areas of Paris, St. Germain des Prés is famous as the heart of the Belle Epoque and a hub for writers and artists, such as Hemingway, Picasso, and F. Scott Fitzgerald. This lovely area has managed to maintain its unique, carefree vibe, with its lavish architecture, top-notch galleries, and historic cafes. To spend time in St. Germain des Prés is the quintessential Parisian experience. Tour will also include a visit to the magnificent Luxembourg Gardens and St. Sulpice. This 17th century church, the second-largest in Paris, is famous for its visually and aurally spectacular organ and its role in the “The DaVinci Code”. Along the way, we’ll make a stop at a bakery known all over the world for its scrumptious macaroons.

12:00 N - 2:30 PM: Lunch in St. Germain des Pres followed by time to explore the area and take photographs on your own

2:30 PM: Return to Hotel – Time at Leisure

5:30 PM – 7:00 PM: “Critique Session”

7:30 PM: Dinner on your own – We will provide recommendations

November 7 and 8: Paris Photo and Independent Book Fair – Use your VIP passes for entry into one of the world’s finest photography exhibits, taking place in the beautiful Grand Palais.

(November 7) Dinner on your own – We will provide recommendations  

(November 8) 7:30 PM: Dinner and Wine Tasting – The group will meet for a delicious dinner and lesson in French wines and food pairings at the historic Le Pharamond, listed as a historical monument and with an atmosphere that reflects the unique Parisian lifestyle during the 'Belle Epoque'. The group will enjoy:

- A 3-course dinner menu suggested by the Chef

- 6 different wines of different regions and grapes, including Champagne, Burgundy, Bordeaux

- 2 whites, 2 reds and a dessert wine

- coffee, tea, water

- Private sommelier

November 9: Photo Tour – Neighborhood Walk

9:00 AM – 12:00 N: Marais Photo Op Tour - The Marais is one of Paris’ oldest and most dazzling quarters. First developed in the 12th century, the Marais, which means "swamp", went from being a royal favorite to falling into ruin after the Revolution of 1789. Since its revival in the 1960's, it has shone as a center of Parisian artistic and cultural life while maintaining the flavor of medieval and Renaissance Paris. Your Marais expert, photographer and professional guide Richard Nahem, will share with you breathtaking photo ops in one of the oldest and best preserved neighborhoods in Paris. You’ll spend your morning amongst historic buildings and private mansions, beautifully manicured parks and gardens, and some of the finest boutiques in the city. Food lovers can feast at specialty shops, patisseries, and one of the world’s greatest places for chocolate. The tour also includes a visit to the Jewish Quarter exploring synagogues, the Shoah Memorial, and the tasty Jewish food shops. Enjoy this unforgettable tour of a truly magical part of Paris.

November 10: Photo Tour – Neighborhood Walk

9:00 AM – 12:00 N: Montmartre Photo Op Tour - One of the liveliest neighborhoods in Paris and a designated historic area, Montmartre has something for everyone—art, architecture, café and club culture, and, of course panoramic views of Paris. A funicular travels up the 427-foot “mountain” to the impressive Sacre Coeur Basilica, which was completed in 1912. Inside you’ll find one of the world’s largest mosaics and its famous bell, le Savoyarde, which is among the heaviest bells ever cast. If you’re up to the climb, the top of the dome offers 360-degree views extending across 20 miles. The adjacent neighborhood, Place du Tertre, once home to Toulouse-Lautrec, Degas, Matisse, and Renoir, continues to be home and studio to countless artists.

12:00 N – 1:30PM: Lunch at Le Bal Cafe

1:30 PM – 2:30 PM: Visit Le Bal, a joint project between the city and other benefactors to convert a once infamous space into a unique place for the exhibition of photographic art.

2:30 PM: Return to Hotel – Time at Leisure

5:00 PM – 6:00 PM – “Critique Session”

7:30 PM - Farewell Dinner (Location TBD)

November 11: Return to USA

This morning you will check out of your hotel and transfer to the airport for your flight home.

Trip Cost: $3,995 per person*

- * Pricing is based on the assumption of 10 guests. Traveling with fewer than 10 guests could necessitate a supplemental per-person charge to offset certain fixed costs.

- *Pricing assumes double occupancy of rooms. People who wish to occupy single rooms will have a single supplement charge of $1,200.

Terms and Conditions:

  • A deposit of $1,000 per traveler is required with this registration form. – $100 of this deposit becomes non-refundable 14 days after payment.
  • A Mid-term Payment of $1,000 is Due Before Payment is Due Before May 1, 2018
  • Final Payment of $1,995 (plus single supplement, if applicable) is Due Before August 1, 2018
  • Cancellation penalties:
    1. Loss of $100 from initial deposit as noted above after 14 days
    2. July 15 = 50% loss of total cost of trip
    3. August 15 = 100% loss of total cost of the trip
