Oh, Snap!

Oh, Snap! is a program created by in response to the interest among local women to come together, share stories and learn about photography in a safe, non-judgmental space. Self-identifying women from the neighborhood and the larger community are welcomed to attend. You don’t have to sign up. You don’t have to pay. You come when you can. PPAC welcomes you to Oh Snap! where we make friends and photographs.

Oh, Snap! meets on the third Saturday of each month, from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm. Join our Oh, Snap! Facebook group for sharing and updates.

Upcoming meeting dates:

MAY 19
Book, Blog or Exhibition? Lori Waselchuk will present the costs, benefits, and challenges of different strategies for distributing your work.

JUNE 16
Debi Cornwall Gallery Talk and Discussion. Cornwall will discuss her exhibition, Welcome to Camp America, a vivid and disorienting glimpse into the U.S. Naval Station in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba and its growing diaspora, through photographs, once-classified government documents, and first-person accounts.

JULY 21
Justyna Badach Presentation. Badach will present her project Land of Epic Battles, a new series of images made using film stills from ISIS training videos. After a year of experimentation, Badach discovered a 19th-century process that allowed her to use gunpowder as a pigment to create large, dichromate prints that resemble antiquated documentation of Middle Eastern sites and landscapes.

AUGUST 18
Portfolio Presentations. Up to four Oh, Snap! participants can volunteer to show portfolios or present their projects at PPAC’s gallery. If you are interested in sharing your work in a non-competitive and supportive space, please contact Lori at lori@philaphotoarts.org.

SEPTEMBER 15
Emily Schiffer: Art, Community Engagement, and Social Change. Schiffer, a New York-based photographer and mixed media artist, will talk about her work and 12-year collaboration with youth on the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota.

PPAC hopes that Oh, Snap! will bring together women of diverse backgrounds and experiences. The activities will develop according to the interests of its participants, but it’s safe to predict that you will learn photo basics, share photo tips, learn from photo professionals, and make your own photographs. Please contact Lori if you have questions: lori@philaphotoarts.org
