Contemporary Practices Photography Certificate
The Philadelphia Photo Arts Center Photography Certificate is a comprehensive photography program that prepares students for a wide range of contemporary photographic practices through the emphasis of supporting each individual student’s goals. Through a series of selected courses students will become adept in lighting, post-production, printing, presentation strategies, and history and criticism, with a focus in a few specific areas such as documentary, portraiture, fashion, etc. With the assistance of an advisory team and support from the faculty, each student will be guided through the program in a way that fulfills their goals and encourages experimentation.
Our Photography Certificate is obtained through the completion of 12 classes, a public artist lecture, the completion of a photo book, and a final exhibition of a completed body of work. Advanced students have the option to test out of the Photography I: The Essentials class through a written examination. For those students who do test o,ut they will have the opportunity to take another course. The final exhibition will not be held at PPAC, but the advisors will help organize the exhibition with a partnering institution.
Each student enrolled in the certificate program will be given an academic advisor and a thesis advisor to provide portfolio reviews and assistance along the way. Students may enroll in the certificate program at the beginning of any semester (registration deadlines will be provided). A student enrolled in the program must complete the program in no longer than four years.
